Joe Felter is an educator, researcher and entrepreneur with over 30 years of senior organizational leadership and management experience including 15+ years working at the nexus of Stanford University and Silicon Valley.  Joe is the founding Director of the Gordian Knot Center for National Security Innovation at Stanford and co-creator of “Hacking for Defense,” a defense innovation focused academic curriculum currently taught at more than 60 universities across the country and internationally. A former US Army Ranger and Special Forces officer, Joe served in a variety of special operations assignments with combat deployments to Panama, Iraq and Afghanistan. From 2017 to 2019, Felter served as US deputy assistant secretary of defense for South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania. Joe is a West Point graduate with a masters degree from the Harvard Kennedy School and Ph.D. from Stanford University.
